Best Bets for Beginners
There are many, many bets you can make at a web casino online craps table, but if you're just starting out, you're better off sticking with a few fairly simple bets where you have the best odds and where the house edge is lowest.
Pass and Don't Pass bets are the best, particularly if the web casino online gives you "free odds." The house edge on Pass bets is only 1.41%, and on Don't Pass bets, it's only 1.4%. Most folks make Pass bets for the camaraderie that develops around the shooter. The first roll, or come-out bet is the best chance for a Pass bet. Remember: if the first roll is a 7 or 11, the Pass bets and shooter win. There are six ways you can roll a 7, and two ways you can roll an 11, so that come-out roll gives you eight chances to win. The come-out bet is a risky Don't Pass bet for those same reasons (only 3 ways to win, and 8 ways to lose). When the point is established, suddenly the Don't Pass bet is favored. Pass and Don't Pass bets pay out at even money.
Come and Don't Come bets are just like Pass and Don't Pass bets, except they're done on rolls after the first roll. A Come Bet means you're betting the next roll is a 7 or 11. If it's not, but is a 2, 3, or 12 (craps), it loses. If the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, that number becomes the point for your Come Bet, and your wager is moved to the box that's marked with that number. If your point is rolled before the next 7, you win. With Don't Come bets, you win if the next roll is 2, or 3, and nothing happens if they roll 12. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled, a Don't Come bet loses if that number comes up again before another 7 is rolled. Conversely, the Don't Come bet wins if a 7 is rolled before the point number.

Once the point number is established, any player can back a Pass or Come bet with a bet of an equal amount by placing matching chips directly behind the Pass line wager or behind the Come Bet chips, if the player tells the dealer so, in which case the dealer moves the odds bet into the same box as the Come bet number. If the point number is rolled before a 7, the Pass Bet or Come Bet is paid off at even money, but odds bets are paid off at the true odds of rolling that number, which are:
- roll 6 - 6:5
- roll 8 - 6:5
- roll 5 - 3:2
- roll 9 - 3:2
- roll 4 - 2:1
- roll 10 - 2:1
The house edge is lowest of anywhere in the web casino online for these odds bets, and some web casinos offer double odds, where a player can bet twice his original Pass or Come Bet at true odds. That lowers the house edge even more.
